Hey everyone!
So this past week in ISM has been somewhat crazy. We have been working on our speeches that will consist of presenting what we have learned so far in our field, as well as the research interviews we have done. It will last between 10-15 minutes and I am still trying to prepare for it.
Because my field of study is in the realm of design and arts, I hadn't realized it until we started doing presentations but every single line, stroke, color, etc. I make will be judged and I'm nervous that I may not be good enough to be a designer. Critiques can be helpful, but they can also be hurtful so learning to listen to the good ones and grow from it is a challenge but I know it will help.
In addition to our presentations and speeches, we also came up with ideas for our original work. I had the idea of creating list of things every package design should have, (Title, brand, logo, slogan, etc.) and will sit down with kids from an elementary, middle and high school and create the packaging together. This will allow me to find out what attributes of a package design can be targeted towards a certain audience and get the most attention. I am very excited to get started on that as well!
On the bright side of things, I did finally manage to get a mentor! After 5 interviews with all very talented designers of all sorts, I chose Ryan Chen to be my mentor. Not only is he an amazing designer but, his past works blow my mind. In addition, he was also the first person who introduced me to package design and peaked my interest in that aspect of design. Im extremely excited to see the work we will be able to make together and hope you guys are too!
