Hey everyone!
Just wanted to update you on my progress so far on my final product. For ISM we had to write a progress report on how our product is going and I thought it would be neat to share that with all of you so here it is:
In the beginning of the ISM year, I had a preconceived idea of my final product. I was very set on making graphics for merchandise (similar to the t-shirts sold at concerts and festivals). However, now having gone through the school year thus far, and taking what I have learned, I can say that is almost the complete opposite of what I want to do. Once I finally had a mentor, we began setting up weekly visits to go over what we wanted our final product to be. The first visit, we started developing ideas and came to the conclusion that we wanted to create something that would envelop the idea of education and how we could reinvent the way students could connect and learn more efficiently.
So we took this idea and began contemplating the different final products we could do that brought originality, creativity, and usefulness. After a lot of thinking, we finally decided on recreating moodle, which is a website school districts use as a way for teachers and students to communicate, turn in work, and get grades. It hasn't been recreated since 2007, and the interface could definitely use an update. At first glance this might seem like a pointless and boring final product, but it’s actually quite interesting to me. To see something I have used for most of my school life being redesigned by me, and for the use of others is quite intimidating, but I was prepared to take on the challenge. In the midst of learning graphic design from my mentor, we first began figuring out a logo for our website, and a brand for it as well. Along with update moodle, we wanted to give it a fresh face and brand to give a sense of personality to our audience.
We must have gone through the process of thinking, drawing, vectorizing, and finalizing a logo at least twenty times before finally settling on one we both liked and felt fit the brand best. After figuring out a logo and brand name, we then had to begin creating the bulk of the final product, which is what we are working on currently: The website. It has to be designed in such a way that we get across the idea we are trying to convey and it still being efficient. We are currently in the process of wireframing, a new technique I learned that is basically mapping out what you want the website to look like. After wire framing we will go into invision, which is a system that allows us to take our photoshop design of the website and allow it to look like a live website without having to actually pay for a domain name.
This is eventually what we will present on final presentation night, and hopefully be able to pitch to Frisco ISD to get it to become a live and working website, that can be integrated into the school system in the near future. I am very hopeful for my final product, and I am excited to see what the finished website will look like.
So that was it, I hope you all are as excited for my final product as I am!
