Hi again!
So this past week in ISM, we did our first EOL (Evidence of Learning) which basically is just a fancy way of saying that we put what we have learned so far in our field of study into effect and created a mini original work if you will.
For example, in these past few months of researching and learning copious amounts of knowledge regarding Graphic Design, Branding, and even color theory, I decided to redesign a few book covers. However, I decided to make it a little bit more interesting and challenging by choosing a few books and redesigned the covers to make them look as if they were in a collection together. So, for the books I chose Peter Pan, Treasure Island and Where the Wild Things Are. I chose these for a few reasons. One, because I liked the overall idea of adventure, and wanted to explore that aspect. Secondly, I didn't want to make the book covers something everyone has seen before, I wanted new and I wanted mysterious, in order to catch the readers eyes. So whats more interesting than adventure? THE BAD GUYS.
Instead of having what you would think would be on the covers (Peter Pan, Jim Hawkins, and Max), I decided to make them the Bad Guys of each book, or at least the antagonists of each book. So I made the covers have Hook, Long John Silver and The Wild Things. I also made them all silhouettes to add to the mysterious and adventurous mood I wanted to give off. Overall I think I took a lot of what I learned from my research and put it to good use and used it effectively. Obviously because it is a form of art there will always be contrasting opinions, but what I have learned in not only Graphic Design but in life in general is that, there will always be people ready to tell you that your work is not as good as someone else's but if you believe in your work then thats all that matters because at least you will be happy doing something you love and in my opinion, passion in something will always beat talent because you get to be happy too.
But that's it, I'm off my soapbox, but I will be posting my work up here shortly as well, so be sure to check that out!
See you guys next week!
